The year was 2007. It was an uncertain time for anyone who could not read, or those susceptible to rumours and innuendo. To these misinformed folks - New Year's Eve 2007 was ostensibly to mark the demise of the Royal Albert Arms as a live music venue at the hands of evil owner (and currently a wanted international felon! it's true! you just read it on the internet!), Daren Jorgenson.

The truth was - Daren wasn't to take over ownership for another three months. And he never had any intention of taking our beloved venue away from Winnipeg. So there!

We just wanted to have a wicked party and thank Wayne for all things he's been able to provide to Winnipeg bands over the many years he owned the Albert.

Wayne had a single drink and left. The rest of us shared the most memorable New Year's Eve party the Albert has ever hosted.

SO WITH ALL THAT SAID - we're going to do it again.

Winnipeg's New Year's Eve Concert for Hope & Peace 2008 will be held on Wednesday, December 31, 6:00 to 7:45 p.m. at Westminster United Church. Doors open at 5:15 p.m. Sorry no admittance without a ticket.

Enjoy an evening of lively music, entrancing dance, and moving messages from Winnipeg schoolchildren. Performers include Prairie Jewel, Spanish Dance Mosaic, Marco Castillo, and the Oceanic Jazz Orchestra with Inyange. Al Rae, a well-known standup comic and comedy writer, is back by popular demand for his second stint as emcee.

Tickets (maximum of 4 tickets per family) are available at selected Assiniboine Credit Union locations starting December 15. Please get your tickets early to avoid disappointment.
